LIFE IN THE FAST LANE
John Gorsline’s passion of motorsport started when he was 6 years old when his dad took him to Watkins Glen to watch him race his 120 Jag–got him settled on a picnic blanket, and telling him to stay put. He did, and from that, and a career was born.
After serving in the United States Marine Corps, John started in the insurance business with National Life in 1969. John realized that race car drivers, no matter what series they were racing in, were heavily rated. He worked with underwriters to have them develop a thorough understanding of racing and the safety precautions to develop a much more forgiving rate schedule. He also noticed that US racers did not have access to Lloyds of London disability coverage and he mentored with various syndicates and brokers in London to be able to pioneer that coverage in the United States. John is now the premier provider of motorsport coverage over the past 50 years in various series from Formula 1, Nascar, Indy Car, Sportscar, to hobby vintage drivers.
John has been quoted in many publications, including the New York Times, USA Today, International Wall Street Journal, AutoWeek, and Sports Car Illustrated. He was also quoted in the best-selling, Tom Stanley book, “Networking to the Affluent”. John has been asked to travel to Rome for a Motorsport Safety seminar to talk on his experience insuring drivers.
Giving back to the motorsport world after a career spanning over 50 years, John has granted the Gorsline Company Annual Scholarship to young, talented, championship drivers since 1994. Some of those recipients include Danica Patrick, Ricky Stenhouse Jr., and Bryan Sellers to name a few. In addition to attending 50+ races all over the world per year, John also races his own 1964 Mini Cooper in various vintage races. John and his wife, Amy, along with their faithful pup, Jackson, divide their time between Rochester, New York and Delray Beach, Florida amongst their travels.
